Adelaide Strikers sealed their maiden Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) title with a 10-run win over Sydney Sixers at the North Sydney Oval on Saturday.

All-rounder Deandra Dottin smashed an unbeaten 52 off 37 balls, including 2 sixes and 6 fours, as the Striker??s finished their innings on 147-5.

In reply, the Sixers lost their top-order batters for just 16 runs inside the first six overs. Captain Ellyse Perry and Nicole Bolton then added 62 runs for the fifth wicket. With the rising required run rate, they too faltered in the midd??le and were back in the dugout by the 15 over.

Perry & Co. were eventually bundled out for 137, and Strikers – playing their third consecutive final – lifted the WBBL trophy for the first time in the tournament history.

Brief Scores: Adelaide Strikers 147/5 in 20 overs (Deandra Dottin 52 not out, Sophie Ecclestone 2/19) beat Sydney Sixers 137 in 20 overs (Ellyse Perry 33, Darcie Brown 2??/15) by 10 runs.

Australia Women captain Meg Lanning is set to miss the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) with Melbourne Stars as she continues her indefinite break from the game. Notably, after leading Australia to Commonwealth Games Gold in Birmingham, Lanning last month ann??ounced she was stepping a??way from cricket.

“After a busy couple of years, I’ve made the decision to take a step back to enable me to spend time focusing on myself. I’m grateful for the support of CA and my teammates and ask that my privacy is respected during this time,” Lanning said in a statement.

In the absence of Lanning, the Stars will need to find a new captain for their campaign, which starts on October 15 against Brisbane Heat. Earlier this year, Lanning had handed over the captaincy of Victoria to Sophie Molineux.

“Melbourne Stars Captain Meg Lanning will continue her indefinite break from cricket and will not play in WBBL|08. The club respects her decision and asks that her privacy continue to be respected,” Stars said in a release.

Not to mention, Lanning is the biggest name and most rel??iable performer in the WBBL. In 54 WBBL matches across four seasons, she has amassed 1,805 runs at an average of 41.97, with 18 half-centuries.

“We are proud of Meg for acknowledging that she needs a break and will continue to support her during this time. She has been an incredible contributor to Australian cricket over the last decade, achieving remarkable feats both individually and as part of the team, and has been a brilliant role model for young kids. The welfare of our players is always our number one priority, and we will continue to work with Meg to ensure she gets the support and space she needs,” said Shawn Flegler, CA’s Head of Performance, Women’s Cricket, as quoted by Cricket.com.au.

Speaking about Melbourne’s team combination, they have overseas recruitment of three top-order players in the form of Indian star Jemimah Rodrigues and English pair of Alice Capsey and Lauren Winfield-Hill.

Melbourne Stars current WBBL|08 squad:

Alice Capsey (ENG), Lucy Cripps, Sophie Day, Nicole Faltum, Tess Flintoff, Kim Garth, Rhys McKenna, Sasha Moloney, Sophie Reid, Jemimah Rodrigues (IND), Annabel Suther?land, Lauren Winfield-Hil??l (ENG)

Former New Zealand Women’s captain Amy Satterthwaite has joined the Adelaide Strikers as their assistant coach for the forthcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season.

Notably, Satterthwaite bid farewell to international cricket in May earlier this year. She is White Ferns’ most capped women’s ODI player with 145 matches and has scored 6,423 runs and picked up 76 wickets for her country.

This will be Satterthwaite’s first time as coach of a professional cricket side, though she has served as a mentor to the Canterbury team in the New Zealand domestic circuit. Satterthwaite has been a star at the WBBL as well, having amassed almost 1,500 runs and taken 44 wickets, including a hat-trick for Hobart Hurricanes in the second year of the tournament.

“The WBBL is such a quality competition and one that I have been fortunate to play in over the years. I absolutely loved my time on the field playing with and against some of the best in the world, and I know the standard of the local talent is extremely high,” said Satterthwaite as quoted by Adelaidestrikers.com.au.

“I have always had great respect for the Adelaide Strikers; they have always been a competitive franchise, and the squad looks strong again this season after a brilliant performance last year. Hopefully I can bring a fresh perspective to the coaching group and lean on my experience to help the team go that next step this summer,” she added.

The upcoming eighth season of the WBBL will start on October 13, with the Strikers beginning their campaign two days later against Sydney Sixers in Mackay. On the appointment of Satterthwaite, Strikers Head Coach Luke Williams said the White Fern??s cricketer was a welcome addition to the coaching group.

“Amy has achieved so much throughout her playing career, and she brings natural leadership qualities that will be extremely valuable to our team. She has a great cricket mind, knows this competition better than most and will really be able to connect with our players both on and off the field. We can’t wait to welcome her to Adelaide,” said Williams.

betvisa liveWBBL|08 – Cricket Times - betvisa cricket //betvisa69.com/2022/09/sydney-sixers-sign-white-ferns-legend-suzie-bates-for-wbbl08/ Thu, 15 Sep 2022 09:29:36 +0000 //betvisa69.com/?p=65367

Just a couple of days after confirming Sophie Ecclestone’s signing, the Sydney Sixers have revealed another top recruitment in the form of White Ferns legend Suzie Bates. She is the club’s second and final overseas signing and joins other stars such as Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner.

Notably, Bates is a big name in the WBBL, having spent four seasons at the Adelaide Strikers and two at the Perth Scorchers, in which she has amassed 1738 runs and taken 35 wickets. Due to travel restrictions, the New Zealander did not feature in last year’s competition.

Bates, who played a key role in New Zealand’s Commonwealth Games Bronze Medal victory, recently propelled the Oval Invincibles to The Hundred title in England. Regarding her latest signi??ng in the WBBL, the Dunedin-born said she is looking forward to the upcoming season of the 20-over tournament.

“They have a star-studded line-up, and I can’t wait to be part of that squad. They’ve been one of the most successful clubs in WBBL history… but I think they’d be the first to admit that in recent times they haven’t done as well as they’d like. I can’t wait to be part of a team that wants to make finals and wants to win Championships,” said Bates, as quoted by Sydneysixers.com.au.

Bates, who has represented New Zealand in as many as 273 wh??ite ball matches, said s??he is excited to share the changeroom with Healy and Perry, who have done incredibly well in the WBBL.

“It will be nice [to play alongside Healy and Perry] because I’m a bit sick of playing against them! Healy scored a lot of runs – and a few hundreds – against the Strikers in the past, so it will be nice to be down the other end and watch those two go about their business,” added Bates.

Sydney Sixers WBBL|08 Squad:

Ellyse Perry (Captain), Jade Allen, Suzie Bates, Nicole Bolton, Maitlan Brown, Erin Burns, Stella Campbell, Lau?ren Cheatle, Sophie Ecclestone, Ash Gardner, Ange Genford, Alyssa Healy

Sophie Ecclestone – the world’s top-ranked T20I bowler – has joined Sydney Sixers for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). It’s the first time Ecclestone has signed for any team in the WBBL, and now, she is the second English player after Danni Wyatt (Brisbane Heat) to play in the forthcoming season.

Since her international debut in 2?016, Ecclestone has attained the reputation of a premier T20I bowler as she has taken 78 wickets in just 58 matches.

“They play in my favourite colour â€?so that’s a great start. Obviously, they have great players with the likes of [Alyssa] Healy, [Ellyse] Perry and [Ash] Gardner, so I’m really excited about going over and playing with them,” said Ecclestone as quoted by Sydneysixers.com.au.

“It’ll be nice not to have to bowl at themâ€?it’s nice they’ll be on my team for once! I’m excited [by the thought of getting] to know them and to start training with them and play in the same team,” Ecclestone added.

India Women cricket star Smriti Mandhana is considering pulling out of the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in order to manage her workload and keep herself fit for international? projects.

Smriti began 2022 with an ODI tour of New Zealand in February, right before the 50-over World Cup in the same ?country in March. She then took part ??in the domestic tournament and travelled to Sri Lanka for the white-ball series.

Later in July and August, Smriti played a pivotal role for India in their campaign in Commonwealth Games, where the Women in Blue reached the final and f??inished with a silver medal after losing to A?ustralia.

Since then, the star opener has been in the UK, as she represented Southern Brave in the Women’s Hundred and then joined the India squad for the ongoing white-ball series against England, which started with a T20I leg on September 10.

“I think more than the mental part, it’s about managing a little bit of physical part. Definitely, I’ll be thinking about pulling out of WBBL because I don’t want to miss out on playing for India or having any niggles when I play for India because I want to give my 100% when I play international cricket. So definitely, I’ll be thinking about playing or pulling out of Big Bash,” said Smriti in a press conference from Derby.

“I have been on the road for a while now. Post the one-day World Cup, I have been on the road with the domestic and the tournaments you mentioned [the Sri Lanka tour, the Commonwealth Games, the Women’s Hundred]. I just try to tell myself that because of Covid, we haven’t really played a lot of cricket, and we really hoped that we came back and start playing cricket. And now I can’t be complaining that we have a lot of cricket on the platter. As a woman player, we always wanted this sort of schedule for us,” she added.

India Women batting sensation Jemimah Rodrigues will return to the Women Big Bash League (WBBL) in the upcoming season, but with a new team.

Rodrigues has signed a contract with Melbourne Stars for the 2022-23 season, starting in October. She will become the first Indian player to represent? t??he Stars in the WBBL.

Notably, Rodrigues had represented Melbourne Renegades in the previous season, scoring 333 runs at a strike rate of over 116. The right-handed batter, however, will miss the Stars’ first couple of matches, due to international commitments, with India competing in the Women’s Asia Cup in Bangladesh running from October 1-16.

Rodrigues expressed her enchantment after joining the Stars, sta??ting she is looking forward to returning to Melbourne.

“I am super excited to be a part of the Stars family. I’ve been told that I’m the first-ever Indian to sign for the Stars, and it is my honour to do so. Melbourne has always been my favourite city in Australia, and I can’t wait to get back there! “ said Jemimah, as quoted by Melbournestars.com.au.

Rodrigues is the third Indian to sign for WBBL|08, alongside captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who has returned to the Renegades, and Pooja Vastrakar – signed up by Brisbane Heat.

“We have a huge following in India, and to add a player of Jemimah’s quality to our squad is a huge coup for the club. I’m sure Jemimah will quickly become a fan favourite, and we look forward to seeing her as part of the Stars Family in WBBL|08,” said Stars’ General Manager Blair Crouch.
