Caribbean big-hitter, Chris Gayle, in all?? likelihood, shall be penalized for his recent comments ??on former teammate Ramnaresh Sarwan.

While criticizing his former Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Jamaica Tallawahs, Gayle called Sarwan ‘worse than coronavirus’. St Lucia Zouks bagged Gayle as their marquee player for the 2020 edition of CPL.

“Sarwan, you are worse than the coronavirus right now. What transpired with the Tallawahs, you have a big part to play because you and the owner are like this (very close),” Gayle said on the video uploaded on his Youtube Channel.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) chi??ef Ricky Skerritt stated his opinion on the matter. Skerritt hoped that the incident would not affect his glittering career.

“I’m sure there is some kind of discussion taking place at the moment between Chris and the CPL because the CPL has rules which will come into view here because Chris is signed into a franchise team,” Skerritt told Jamaica-Gleaner.

“I hope it doesn’t become a world matter in terms of the career of Mr Gayle, because it’s been a very outstanding career and I really wouldn’t want to see it brought to an end by this event,” added the CWI chief.

Earlier, ace all-rounder Andre Russell also lambasted Jamaica Tallawahs tagging them as the worst franchise he wa?s associated with.

“It’s certainly not something that I enjoyed looking at or reading about. Personally, I think that was unfortunate, but the process will have to take its course and that process will get triggered because he is a contracted player in the CPL within the West Indies league,” he said.

“If a player is contracted to a club or a franchise or to Cricket West Indies that kind of behaviour brings that contract into some level of disrepute,” concluded Skerritt.

Former West Indies’ cricketer Ramnaresh Sarwan and assistant coach of Jamaica Tallawahs has dismissed the accusations against him imposed by attacking batsman, Chris Gayle, saying he had no involvement in the latter’s exclusion from the Caribbean Premier League’s franchise.

Gayle had earlier put allegations on Sarwan for backstabbing him by playing a crucial role behind his ouster from Tallawahs’ side ahead of the 2020 season. Gayle even termed his former teammate as ‘snake’ while forming severe charges in a YouTube video.

Now, Sarwan has responded to Gayle’s indictments by issuing a 2-page statement on his Facebook account. Sarwan stated that his former teammate has leveled false allegations against him.

“Christopher Gayle’s outburst disseminated via a YouTube video a few days ago is quite unfortunate. I categorically deny any involvement in the decision or the decision-making process, which led to Gayle’s non-selection to represent the Jamaica Tallawahs in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Tournament,” wrote Sarwan.

“In that video, he has leveled false allegations and tarnished the good name and reputation of a series of persons. I was the focus of most of the onslaughts. I reply, not because I feel that Gayle’s rantings are worthy of it, but because I feel that the public’s record must be set straight and also, to protect the character and careers of so many people, whose image he sought to besmirch,” Sarwan added.

Sarwan, in his post named Gayle as an “extraordinary talent”, and said he valued his old friend a lot and has always respected him. The 39-year-old also recalled an incident when he backed Gayle despite of negative vibes around him.

Sarwan rolled back to an embarrassing e??pisode in Big Bash League (BBL) when calls were made by many including former Australian Ian Chappel to ban Gayle from international cricket for his remarks against a female journal??ist in Australia.

“Let me make it abundantly clear, I have played with Gayle from the inception of my international career, and I have always respected him as an extraordinary talent, a colleague and most importantly, a close friend. Hence, my utter shock by these scandalous allegations. He was welcomed in and is loved by my immediate family and has hurt them terribly.

“Fans will recall that when Ian Chappell called for Gayle to be banned from international cricket because of remarks he made to a female journalist, I issued a public call for fans to rally around Gayle. I stood up for him on every such occasion. But this missive is not about that,” Sarwan added further.

The Guyanese cricketer also th??anked those who supported him during the current times and wished Gayle good luck with his new team in the upcoming editi??on of CPL.

“I thank all those who have conveyed their support to me and rallied around me during this unfortunate turn of events and take the opportunity to wish Chris all the best with this new team and the upcoming CPL,” concluded Sarwan who played for West Indies between 2000-2011.

West Indies’ legend and widely popular as ‘Universe Boss’, Chris Gayle, has lashed out at his former teammate Ramnaresh Sarwan and termed him as a ‘snake’ and a ‘backstabber’ during a series of videos on YouTube.

Gayle has accused Sarwan of playing dirty politics behind the decision taken by Jamaica Tallawahs a?? Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 franchise of not retaining the left-handed batsman for the upcoming season.

On Tuesday, in the second of the three videos published on the “Chris Gayle â€?Universe” YouTube channel, Gayle accused that Sarwan, who happens to be the assistant coach of the Tallawahs, joined hands with the team management to plan his exit from the side.

Gayle was so angry that he even labelled Sarwa??n as someone worse than the current global disease Coronavirus.

“Sarwan, you are worse than the coronavirus right now. What transpired with the Tallahwahs, you had a big part to play. Sarwan, you were the one who gave a big speech at my birthday party about how far we have come. Sarwan, you are a snake. You know, you are not the most loved person in the Caribbean. You are so vindictive; you are still immature, you are back-stabbing,” Gayle said.

The Kingston-born cricketer had returned to the Tallawahs’ in 2019. Earlier in his first stint, Gayle led the side to title wins in 2013 and 2016, before moving to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for a couple of years.

“When I left the Tallawahs [after the 2016 season], it was a high-spirited team. The amount of complaints I got when I wasn’t there, the amount of problems they had with Sarwan, [Andre] Russell was the captain at the time; the number of problems Sarwan and the captain have, keeping meetings behind the captain’s back and these sort of things. That’s the kind of person Sarwan is,” added Gayle.

Gayle also said that when he returned to the squad in 2019, Sarwan told him that he was going to be the head coach and Donovan Miller wou??ld become his assistant. However, Gayle expressed to Sarwan that the latter has no experience to bec??ome a coach.

“I told Sarwan directly that ‘Sarwan, you have no experience being a head coach. It is not an easy job.”

After the chat, when Miller was announced as the head coach and Gayle didn’t back Sarwan’s ambitions, the Guyanese assistant coach took this on his ego and started influencing foreign players to make fun of Gayle in front of junior lads.

“The amount of lies this guy told on the players. Sarwan wanted to put a curfew on the players when the games were 8 ‘o’clock at night…he wanted to know why there were so many Jamaicans on the team. You take it upon yourself and say too many Jamaicans on the team. Sarwan also influenced the overseas players to ‘make a mockery of him in front of the younger players’,” Gayle added further.

The attacking batsman further said that because he is the only active player since 1996, this hurts them and they can’t digest the fact of him is still playing the game.

“Out of that era – 1996 – I’m the only one active, playing. Everyone else retired. I’m the last man standing within that era…and I’m still going strong. So it kind of hurt them to see Chris Gayle still playing and still being successful. I’m talking about past and present players. But I’m dealing with you Sarwan. I’ll deal (with the others) whenever that time comes,” concluded the 40-year-old.

Now, after Tallawahs’ refusal, Gayle is supposed to play for St Lucia Zouks in CPL 2020.

Former Pakistani speedster Shoiab Akhtar is considered as one of the most dangerous bowlers the cricketing world has ever seen. His extreme pace and outstanding ability to bowl consistently at 150 KMPH was indeed a treat to watch. One wouldn’t be wrong in claiming that Akhtar had frightened batsmen from across the teams, just by his fiery fast bowling.

On Wednesday, the ‘Rawalpindi Express’ posted a throwback video of those days when he used to terrify batsmen irrespective of how good they were. Akhtar shared a video of him bowling a speedy delivery to West Indies’ genius Brian Lara which ended up hitting the legend??ary batsman on his neck.

After the nasty delivery, Lara can be seen falling on the ground and Akhtar along with his team-mates rushing towards th?e Caribbean batsman to check on him. The incident took place during the Champions Trophy semi-final match in 2004.

“A memory with one of the legends of the game. Best batsman of his era @Brian Lara. I wish I played more against him. #BrianLara #WestIndies #Legend,” tweeted Akhtar.

In that game, Lara was the captain of his team. When the brutal bouncer hit him, he was batting on 30 and had ??to retire hurt. The Windies ended up winning?? the contest with ease as they were chasing just 132 runs.

Ramnaresh Sarwan was honoured with the ‘Player of the Match’ award after his unbeaten knock of 56. Earlier, Pakistan batting unit couldn’t add much total as they were outshined by the quality bowling of Wavell Hinds, Corey Collymore, and Ian Bradshaw.

Later, West Indies won the Champions Trophy which was held in England by defeating the hosts in the final. Sarwan became the ‘Player of the Tournament’. He accumulated 166 runs in 4 games with an outstanding average of 83.
