Before Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) locked horns in an IPL encounter on Friday night, a funny incident during the toss left CSK captain MS Dhoni in splits β€?a scene that is not o?ften seen on the field.

After Simon Doull introduced the two captains at the centre of Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi, the host captain Shreyas Iyer flipped the coin, but it landed a few feet away from where they were standing. Seeing what has happened, Dhoni could not stop himself from laughing out loud. The commentators joined in too because it is not always that you see someone doing the toss like this??.

It was CSK who won the toss and Dhoni elected to bowl first as he often does because of his team’s undeniable ability to chase. But, it did not work out for the yellow army yesterday, as they lost the match to Delhi Daredevils by 34 runs.

Glenn Maxwell’s poor form with the bat continues in the ongoing 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During the game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Maxwell was outfoxed by a sharp shooter from Ravindra Jadeja.

Chennai Super Kings’ power-packed batting line-up failed to chase down a target of 163 despite Ambati Rayudu’s flurry (50 off 29 balls) at the top of the order – falling well short on 128-6.

Harshal Patel was the chief architect of Delhi’s fourth win of the tournament – striking unbeaten 36 off 16 balls before bagging 1-24, including the wicket of Rayudu.

This defeat leaves MS Dhoni & Co. two points behind table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad, although both teams have already qualified for the play-offs.

CSK were cautious to begin with, collecting just 22 ??runs off the first five overs.

Ra??yudu cut loose in the following over, sma?shing pacer Avesh Khan for 22 runs courtesy three sixes and a four.

Rayudu maintained his rich vein of form with his third fifty of the tournament. He departed the very next ball to leave C??SK at 70 for two in 10 overs, needing 93 off the last 60 balls??.

Suresh Raina (15 off 18), dropped by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant on the first ball he faced, did not make it cou??nt as Nepal sp?inner Lamichhane had him caught at deep midwicket.

Skipper???? MS Dhoni (17 off 23) could not do the finishing job for his team which never really got going in the chase.

Earlier, Delhi made a decent start despite the loss of Prithvi Shaw for 17 only to ?collapse from 78-1 to 97-5 after the dismissal of captain Shreyas Iyer, bowle??d by Lungi Ngidi (2-14).

Key man Rishabh Pant (38 off 26) followed his skipper back just three runs later, caught a?t third man by Dwayne Bravo off Ngidi and the clatter continued as Glen?n Maxwell (5) was cleaned bowled by Ravindra Jadeja while attempting a reverse sweep.

Vijay Shankar (36 not out off 28) stopped the rot, putting on an unbroke??n stand of 65 for the sixth wicket with Patel, who struck four sixes off the last over from Bravo.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 13 runs on Monday. While the result at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune didn’t come as a surprise, there was one funny incident during the game that amused one and all.

In the last over of CSK innings, there was a peculiar incident that occurred. MS Dhoni a?nd Ambati Rayudu, who was demoted to No.4 after opening the innings in the first seven games for CSK, were at the crease in the final over. On the penultimate delivery, Rayudu got run-out in a rather comical way.

Rayudu was batting on 41 off 24 at that time, with Dhoni on 49 off 20. DD pacer Trent Boult bowled a short one down the leg side which Dhoni failed ?to pull. The skipper was facing the keeper as he followed through with his attempted stroke, by which time Rayudu, in search for a quick single, came running and ended up r??ight next to him. Dhoni was clueless looking at Rayudu right next to him as the latter scrambled back towards the other end.

Rayudu couldn’t make in time, though, as Rishabh Pant quickly released the ball to Boult who knocked down the stumps at the non-striker’s end with a direct hit. The scene was hilarious as Rayudu and Dhoni shared a wry smile, with their team-mate Dwayne Bravo and coach Stephen Fleming laughing uncontrollably in the dugout.

Chennai Super Kings’ captain MS Dhoni’s knock against the Delhi Daredevils included five massive six, the longest of which was a 108-meter long one. It is also the second longest six so far in this IPL season.

While facing young?ster Avesh?? Khan in the penultimate over of the innings, Dhoni smacked the pacer on the leg side for a humongous hit on the last ball.

The ball was a full-toss at waist-height and was nonchalantly flicked by Dhoni over the deep-square leg and was on the verge of going all the way outside the p?ark.

MSD has already scored 20 sixes in this year’s IPL. He stands fifth amongst the batsmen with most sixes in the IPL overall with 176. Chris Gayle is a distant first in the list with a tally of 288 which seems unassailable at the moment. Both veterans have been displaying their vintage form in full flow so far.

CSK, playing at their new home ground in Pune, were given the upper hand thank??s to a 40-ball 70 from ?opener Shane Watson.

Dhoni, though, came in and gave his team a total that’ll be hard to chase. The wicketkeeper-batsman was in prime form, smashing the DD bowlers to all corners of the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. In the process, Dhoni also smashed his second fastest fifty in the IPL.
