Sharjah Warriors showcased a dominant performance, securing a comfortable nine-wicket triumph against Dubai Capitals in the fourteenth encounter of the International League T20 (ILT20) 2024 on Monday (January 29).

Sharjah Warriors’ dominant bowling display against Dubai Capitals

In a superb bowling display, the Warriors restricted the Capitals to a mere 104 runs in 18.2 overs. The Capitals, struggling from the early loss of both openers, failed to recover, and their innings never gained momentum. Despite the overall batting struggles, Raza provided a moment of brilliance by launching a delivery bowled by Sams straight outside the Sharjah Stadium. Facing a challenging situation with no recognized batters left, Raza went on an aggressive onslaught, managing to propel his team’s score above the 100 runs mark as they were at 85/8.

Sikandar Raza’s superhuman strike

In the second delivery of the 18th over bowled by ??Sams, he unleashed a sharply pitched, short delivery. Raza, anticipating the length in advance, skillfully created room for himself. With impeccable judgment, he positioned himself right underneath the ball and executed a powerful strike, propelling it with an intensity that seemed almost superhuman. The result was a resounding wh?ack that sent the ball soaring over the deep mid-wicket boundary, ultimately clearing the stadium confines in a breathtaking display of skill and power.

The Melbourne Stars fac?ed off against the Sydney Thunder in the 12th? match of the Big Bash League 2023-24 at Lavington Sports Oval on Saturday. The contest saw Thunder dominating the proceedings and registering their first win of the ongoing season.

Haris Rauf forgets his accessories

During the game, one moment captured everyone’s attention when Haris Rauf came out to bat without essential accessories such as pads, gloves and a helmet. This unforeseen incident unfolded after the Melbourne Stars lost four wickets in as many deliveries during the ??final over bowled by Daniel Sams.

The sequence of dismissals commenced with Beau Webster and Usama Mir succumbing to Sams on the third and fourth deliveries, respectively. Mark Steketee then encountered a run-out. The abrupt cascade of wickets caught Rauf unawares, compelling him to step onto the field armed only with his bat, gloves, and helmet. This impromptu decision was necessitated by Rauf’s need to take up position at the non-striker’s end, with Steketee assuming strike for the last ball.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), a perennial contender in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have reached the fin??al stage three times but remained elusive to the ??championship trophy.

Challenges ahead for RCB

As anticipation builds for the upcoming 17th season, RCB, armed with a budget of 23.15 crores, is set on a mission to strengthen its squad through strategic player acquisitions in the IPL 2024 auction. 5 players RCB could bid for in IPL 2024 auction:

Tyagi’s recent exploits in domestic cricket, coupled with his impressive track record in the IPL, where he secured 15 wickets in 19 matches, establish him as a potent force in the fast-bowling department. His ability to bowl at a brisk pace makes him a coveted asset, and teams in search of a dependable Indian pacer are expected to engage in aggressive bidding for his services. Despite not getting ample opportunities with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after moving from the Rajasthan Royals (RR), this promising seamer, now available in the auction pool, is a target for RCB. The Bangalore-based franchise aims to harness his talents to create a formidable pace battery, partnering him with Mohammed Siraj and Reece Topley.

2. Adil Rashid

Rashid, the seasoned English spinner, currently stands as the premier white-ball spin bowler globally. Renowned as England‘s main weapon in T20Is, Rashid has consistently delivered stellar performances worldwide. Making his IPL debut in 2023 for SRH, he played two games, claiming two crucial wickets. With SRH releasing him, Rashid becomes an available option for other franchises. 3. Mitchell Starc

Cricket Australia (CA) recently announced their 23-man preliminary squad for the limited- over tour to West Indies. Some major players were excluded from the squad, including all-rounder D??a?niel Sams.

Sams has decided to take?? an indefinite br??eak from international cricket. It is presumed that the 28-year-old had asked Australia’s apex body not to consider him for the tour.

The New South Wales all-rounder had made his debut against India in December 2020 after scintillating performances during the Big Bash League (BBL) for Sydney Thunders. Sams played his last international game against New Zealand ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

The Milppera-born was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the cash-rich league but fell victim to the coronavirus as soon as he arrived in India. However, the budding all-rounder recuperated well in time and participated in two matches before the IPL 2021 was stalled due to a surge in the COVID-19 ca??ses.

Sams has now take a break from international cricket due to mental health issues. He is not the first Australian to do so. Earlier, Glenn Maxwell, Will Pucovski and Nic Maddinson ??had stopped featuring in international cricket, citing mental healt?h reasons.

Sams avoiding this opportunity, which could have helped him cement his place in the Australia squad for the World Cup T20 scheduled to be played lat?er this year, is a prime example of what cricketers go through.

Overall, the southpaw?? has claimed four wickets in 4 T20Is and s??mashed 54 runs at an extraordinary strike rate of 234.78.

The much-anticipated fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL??) is set t??o begin on Friday (April 9) in Chennai. All the sides have buckled up to go on a roller coaster ride, but before that, some franchises will have to face difficulty as few players will miss their teams’ first game.

This is because a handful of players have tested positive for Covid-19 and are under self-isolation. Similarly, some have arrived only earlier this week in India after finishing their national duties. Therefore, they have to follow the mandatory seven-day quarantine procedure before joining their team’s bubble.

The tournament’s opener will be played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Both the teams are expected to miss the servic??es of few players, in the first game.

Let’s have a look at the list of players who might miss at least the opening game of their respective franchise:

RCB all-rounder Daniel Sams is? also ineligible for selection because he is currently ??serving the isolation period after testing positive for novel coronavirus on April 7.

Mumbai Indians

Quinton de Kock and Adam Milne, the two overseas players for the reigning champions, who arrived this week,?? are currently serving the 7-day quarantine. Hence, they might not make it to the playing XI for the open??ing game.

Chennai Super Kings

Lungi Ngidi

CSK pacer Lungi Ngidi might not be available for their first game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 10 because of the seven-day quarantine. Delhi Capitals

Kagiso Rabada (DC)

DC’s fast-bowling duo of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje is set to miss out on the game against CSK as ??they a?rrived in India on April 6. Both the bowlers played a huge role last year when DC made it to their inaugural finals.

Apart from the fast-bowling pair, left-arm spinner Axar Patel might also miss the match against CSK. He had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 28.

Rajasthan Royals
