Former Australia Test and ODI captain Tim Paine has finally retired from all forms of cricket. The wicketkeeper-batter last featured in a Sheffield Shield game at Hobart on Friday, March 1????7.

Paine scored 42 (62) for Tasmania in the first innings of the match and was unbeaten for 3 in the second innings. This brought an end to Paine’s first-class career after 95 Sheffield Shield games since his debut in 2005.

The 38-year-old holds the record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in first-class cr?icket for Tasmania, with 295 dismissals.

Paine made his Test debut for Australia in 2010 against Pakistan and took over as captain in 2018 after the Cape Town sandpapergate scandal, replacing Steve Smith. He led Australia in 23 out of the 35 Tests he played for the country. Notably, P??aine was the captain of the Australian Test team when India won their maiden Test series in ?2018-19 and when India breached the Gabba fortress in 2020-21, completing a second successive series win.

Paine resigned as captain of the Australian Test team just a week before the A??shes series in 2021, where he was set to lead Australia. This decision came after allegations of sexting became public, and the right-hander pulled out of the series.

He di??d not receive a Cricket Australia ??contract in 2022.

So now, Tim may have called it a day on his professional career, his wife Bonnie Maggs has revealed that he??r husband will have ple??nty of dad duties to keep him busy.

Tim Paine recently addressed a press conference in Hobart, where he announced his decision to step down as Australia’s Test captain. Paine took this call after being informed that his private text messages were going to be made public by Cricket Australia.

“I felt betrayed, and I felt hurt, upset, and I felt pissed off, I also had feelings of gratitude because he was being so honest with me,” she added further.

Bonnie also reacted to Tim’s resignation from the position of Australia’s Test captain and called it unfair.

“It broke my heart to be honest,” Bonnie said. “It’s sad that he felt he had to step down as captain over it, and I just think that’s unfair. I felt sad for him.”

Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday airlifted players, including Test captain Tim Paine and star batsman Marnus Labuschagne, to Sydney from Adelaide in an attempt to save their domestic season and upcoming series against India as new coronavirus cases were report??ed in South Australia this week.

The country’s cricket board has taken this step because Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania have closed their borders to South Australia.

“CA has taken a proactive approach and mobilised a number of people across the country over the past 24 hours to shore up our men’s domestic and international schedules,” CA’s interim chief executive Nick Hockley was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

“I would like to thank the players and staff for their understanding regarding the changes to their travel schedules and for their commitment to ensuring the summer of cricket is a huge success.”

Besides Paine and Labuschagne, players who bid a quick farewell to their family and friends include Matthew Wade, Travis Head and Cameron Green among others.

Hockley added, “I would also like to thank the various leadership groups across Australian cricket for coming together over the past 48 hours and taking quick, decisive action – made possible by thorough, cross-department contingency planning.

“CA will continue to monitor the situation in South Australia and the resulting border restrictions around the country.

“As ever, we will remain agile in addressing the challenges presented by the pandemic and remain more confident than ever of hosting a safe and successful summer across all formats.”

Australia and India wil?l play three ODIs and as many T20Is starting November 27. The two teams will then compete in a four-match Test series, beginning with the day-night Test at ??the Adelaide Oval fro??m December 17.

The banter between Tim Paine and Rishabh Pant was one of the highlights of India’s historic tour of Australia last year. Among Paine’s many jibes at the young Indian wicket-keeper was the one in which he asked if Pant could ‘babysit’ for him and his wife after the series gets over.

This was followed by Paine’s wife Bonnie sharing a picture on her Instagram with Pant and the Aussie couple’s kids which went viral.

While doing commentary for a match in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), Paine finally revealed the reason behind his ‘babysitter’ banter with Pant.

The Australian Test skipper said that his team decided to get into Pant’s head due to the latter’s tendency to play loose shots but more due to the fact that they were just bored.

“Geez we were bored, (we) could not get a wicket,” Paine said.

“Well Ricky (Ponting) knows him quite well – one, he’s very, very good, but two, we found out early in that series that sledging him was a waste of time,” he added.

“It just didn’t bother him, but what we found was that you could get a real lapse of concentration out of him so we went a bit that way.

“So I just tried to put him off and talk rubbish to try and get him involved because he was likely to play a poor shot at time. But he’s a seriously talented player,” Paine said.

Talking about his wife’s photo with Pant going viral, Paine said, “I don’t think she was watching. Then I think she had got a bit of it through her Instagram and then she put up that photo on and as it happens, and as it’s happened, she had a million new Indian followers the next day so she panicked a little bit that it was on the news.”
