Speaking to ABC Sport, the 38-year-old revealed that Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is the toughest bowler he has faced.

“I was just getting Bumrah’d. It’s a shame he was (injured) but thank god for us. Today would’ve been an absolute nightmare facing him on that wicket. As soon as we didn’t see him out there we thought ‘alright, we’ve got a chance here’. He’s the toughest bowler I’ve ever faced,” Khawaja said.

The stand-in Indian skipper in the opening and final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah has been a bone of contention for Australian batters throughout the series. Bumrah was determined to bowl the final over of the day amidst interruptions from Konstas who got involved in a heated exchange with the Indian captain and Khawaja who was seemingly delaying the day’s proceedings deliberately. But their plots bore no fruit as Bumrah, on the final ball of the day, got rid of the experienced Khawaja who got out as the ball took an edge off his bat, giving an easy catch to KL Rahul in the slips. Following Khawaja’s dismissal,  Bumrah instead of celebrating wicket with his teammates returned back to the non-strikers and gave a stare to Konstas in a show of strength.

A disappointing performance from India with the bat

Meanwhile, it was a day to forget for Indian batters as they submitted to the Australian pace attack on a lush green Sydney pitch.
