After the inaugural edition of Indian Premier League in 2008, D?eccan Charg?ers (DC) turned out to be the most potent lineup on paper.

They ho??used the likes of Adam Gilchrist, Herschelle Gibbs, Shahid Afridi, Andrew? Symonds, Rohit Sharma and many others.

How??ever, their inaugural season in 2008, culminated into a disappointment after finishing at the bottom of the table.

Therefore, the Gilchrist-led team needed to make ??a come back in the subsequent edition held in South Africa. The Chargers went on to lift the IPL ??title in the second edition.

Well, it was not smooth sailing for Gilchrist and Co. throughout the entirety of the tournament. There were instances when the legendary wicket-keeper batsman lost his cool, as mentioned by former teammate RP Singh.

During the semi-finals of IPL 2009, the Chargers faced Delhi Daredevils (now: Delhi Capi?tals) and had to chase down a moderate target o?f 154.

Gilchrist led from t??he front with his explosive knock of 85 off just 35 balls. But, was dismissed by the 10th ??over and the score at 102/3. In RP Singh’s words, Gilchrist appeared furious at himself as he failed to finish the game for his side.

“Gilchrist was furious with himself despite playing a mat??ch-winning knock of 85 runs in the 2009 semi-finals. He came back to the dressing room after the knock but was angry and furious. I was surprised and asked him what’s the matter and why was he angry after that great knock. Gilchrist said he wanted to finish the game and needs to learn to finish games for the team,?Singh revealed while going through the highlights of the match on Star Sports.

Rudra Pratap then opened up on the strange superstition he had with Harmeet Singh in the side. ??Adam Gilchrist was superstitious about Harmeet Singh. Harmeet was considered as the lucky mascot for the Deccan Chargers. Gilchrist believed that if Harmeet plays, Deccan wins the game,?added the former Indian fast bowler.

RP was accompanied by Pragyan Ojha while detailing the inside story. The? recently retired off-spinne?r shared how Gilchrist influential leadership, along with VVS Laxman’s support from the bench, helped the squad in believing in themselves, against all the odds.

Indian cricket has seen many captains in the past, but the kind of influence MS Dhoni brought, und?oubtedly, worked as a game-changer for Indian cr??icket.

Being a leader of the Indian cricket team isn’t an easy job at all. This is due to the fact that after every single game, a captain has to go through several scrutinies levied by fans and experts. Dhoni had experienced everything during his captaincy regime and has done magic.

Dhoni’s calm and composed attitude has helped him to win many battles. However, there were times when his decisions were questioned. One such incident happened in 2008 when a decision he made during a selection meeting was leaked, which created a lot of buzz.

According to a report in 2008, Dhoni wasn’t in favour of the selectors’ decision to replace RP Singh with Irfan Pathan. The report fu??rther says that MSD even threatened to give up his captaincy, and eventually had his?? say in the next two matches.

Remembering the episode, RP stated that Dhoni was impartial when it came to picking the right players for his team, and the leak didn’t impact him at all.

“I don’t think I was affected by the leak. The England series we are talking about, I didn’t get a wicket in Indore. Obviously, people think they will get 2 or 3 more chances. But it was not meant to be. Some get five chances, some get ten chances the lucky ones,” RP told Sports Tak.

RP said, he regularly spoke to Dhoni about the areas of improvement. The Raebareli speedste?r claimed that he has a good friendship with the Ranchi superstar but leading the country is an?? entirely different thing.

“We [Dhoni and I] discussed where I could improve, what I can do to get better. I know MS Dhoni. Friendship is a different thing, but leading the country is different altogether. At that moment, I think he pushed the ones who he thought were better. I think he pushed people whom he thought would follow the plans better,” added RP.

The left-arm pacer also admitted that he was released from the team be?cause there was a reduction in his swing as well as speed. Though, he expressed that he has no regrets in his career.

“This is why MS Dhoni is MS Dhoni today. His unbiased opinions on cricket and decision making. I didn’t play as much as I should have because maybe my speed dipped and my swing dipped. Everything else is secondary. If I had improved then, I would have played more. But I am happy with whatever I achieved,” the 34-year-old added further.

RP was the part of Winning t?eam of the 2007 T20 World Cup squad. He represented India in 14 Tests, 58 O?DIs and 10 T20Is. The last appearance of RP came in an ODI match against England in September 2011.

betvisa loginRudra Pratap Singh – Cricket Times - betvisa live //betvisa69.com/2020/04/rp-singh-picks-the-best-captain-he-has-played-under/ Tue, 28 Apr 2020 07:44:10 +0000 //betvisa69.com/?p=40880

Uttar Pradesh (UP) pace bowler, RP Singh’s international career might have spanned for just 82 games overall, but he has played under several legendary Indian captains.

Rudra Prat?ap has played under Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and MS Dhoni, since making his debut in?? Zimbabwe in 2005.

Out of the stalwarts, RP named Anil Kumble as the best captain he played under. The two were part of India’s famous win at Perth during the 2008 Australia tour.

Having rubbed shoulders with some of the best in the business, the Bareily-born ??compared the captaincy of each.

“Anil Kumble was himself a bowler, and so he was the best captain of my life. I played only a few matches under him, but he knew the psyche of the bowler. I said ‘I will bowl in-swing then he would say no continue bowling out-swing and postpone your thoughts’. Rahul Dravid would not do that. He was a bowler, and he knew better about frustrating a bowler,” RP Singh was quoted as saying by India Today.

Also, Singh recalled ?the time when he received backing from Sourav, despite bowling a few wide-balls upfront on debut.

“Every captain has his own way. Sourav Ganguly gave me the ball and just told me to go and ball. First ball wide, second ball wide but he said it happens with everyone. So he was the captain who would support and say’ no worries I will make us win’,” commented the bowler who retired from the game in 2018.

While talking to Dr??avid, RP pointed out his technical acumen and stated that he knew how to run the game.

“Rahul Dravid was technically a very smart player, he would read the game and decide what to do. In the England series I asked to bowl from round the wicket but he should bowl a bit from over the wicket. I looked up to him after a few overs and asked again and then he asked if the ball was swinging and even asked MS Dhoni. He allowed me to bowl round the wicket after that. Setting up the field in different ways, he was a technical master, he knew how to run the game,” said the 34-year-old.

Rudra Pratap was also part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-w??inning squad, where he bowled an unplayable spell against South Africa. He brought laurels back home under the captaincy of a close friend Dhoni.

“We haven’t seen anyone reading the game better than MS Dhoni. When to drag a situation, change it, leave it or how to carry on a game from a situation, I haven’t seen anyone better than him in my playing career. He was a player who would read the situation differently,” concluded RP Singh.

After hanging his boots from the game, Rudra enjoyed his stint as a commentator before being elected as a member of Cricket Advis??ory Committee (CAC).

Amid coronavirus outbreak, all cricketing events hav?e been cancelled, and due to it, players are forced to go in self-isolation. To pass the time, many currents as well as former cricketers, are engaging with their fans and followers on social media platforms.

In the process, many players are interacting with fans via Q/A sessions on Twitter. Some have also come up with their best XI of Indian Premier League (IPL). Former opener Wasim Jaffer disclosed his all-time IPL XI a few hours back.

?Following the pattern, former Indian pacer RP Singh, who was recently named in the three-member panel of Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) by BCCI, also took to Twitter and revealed his all-time best IPL X??I.

RP actually surprised lots of fans by leaving out a few stalwart players in the lucrative league. For example, RP didn’t include second-highest run-scorer (5368) in IPL, Suresh Raina.

For the openers, the Raebareli-born went with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s pocket-dynamite David Warner and third-highest run-scorer (4398) Rohit Sharma of Mumbai Indians (MI).

For the number three position, RP picked IPL’s highest run-scorer and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)’s captain Virat Kohli. The Delhi-born has clubbed 5412 runs in 177 games.

Similarly, for the following place, the left-armer went with another genius cricketer, AB de Villiers. Considered as the most valuable asset of RCB, De Villiers with 4395 runs is the third-highest run-scorer amongst ?overse??as players.

RP picked his close friend and skipper of Chennai Super?? Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni, for the fifth?? position. With 209 sixes, Dhoni has smashed the highest number of sixes amongst Indian players and third overall.

For the following position, RP went with po??wer-striker of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Andre Russell. The batting phenom has the best batting strike-rate in the history of the cash-rich league. Russell has scored 1400 runs in 64 g??ames with a mind-boggling strike-rate of 186.41.

Among bowlers, RP picked two spinners and as three pacers. For the spin department, the 34-year-old went with Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra of Delhi Capitals. With 125 wickets in 139 games, Ashwin is the seventh-highest wicket-taker in IPL. Mishra, on the other hand, has bagged 157 scalps in 147 matches which is the second-highest tally in the lucrative leagu?e.

Swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the yorker specialist duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga are the speedsters in RP’s all-time XI.

Bhuvneshwar has taken 133 wickets in 117 games ?sixth-most by any bowler. Likewise, Bumrah has been a tremendous discovery of the IPL. The right-armer hasn’t played as many games as the abovementioned bowlers, but he has shown the calibre and potential. Burmah has picked 82 wickets in 77 matches.

Malinga, meanwhile, has been a valuable asset for MI. The ace Sri Lankan bowler is the highe??st wicket-taker in the his??tory of IPL. The Galle-born has taken 170 wickets in 122 matches.

For the 12th position, RP has chosen, CSK’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The left-armer has taken 108 scalps in 170 games, while he has 1927 runs to his name.

Here is RP Singh’s all-time IPL XI:

David Warne?r, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni, Andre Russell, Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Ravindra J??adeja (12th man).
