The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has reached its concluding stages, with the second semifinal set to take place between South Africa and New Zealand. The match promises to be a blockbuster, as both teams have showcased exceptional ꦺform throughout the tournament. With a place in the final at stake, the anticipation among fans is at an all-time high.

Both South Africa and New Zealand have a history of performing well in ICC tournaments, making this contest even more exciting. The two teams have previously met in crucial knockout encounters, including the famous 2015 World Cup semifinal, which went down to the last ball. New Zealand emerged viꦛctorious in that encounter, leaving South Africa heartbroken. Now, nearly a decade later, the Proteas will be eager to turn the tables and make history.

Anil Kumble picks the winner of Semifinal 2

Former Indian captain and legendary spinner Anil Kumble has shared his thoughts on the much-awaited semifinal. Kumble believes the match will be a closely fought ba🃏ttle, given the quality of both teams and the balanced conditions in Pakistan. However, he feels South Africa has a slight advantage over their opponents.

Reflecting on their past encounters, Kumble recalled the thrilling 2015 World Cup semifinal, where rain played a crucial role and New Zealand clinched a dramatic last-ball victory. However, for this year’s Champions Trophy, Kumble believes South Africa has a slight edge. Kumble acknowledged that New Zealand has had more experience playing in Pakistan recently, which could work in their favor. However, he remains confident that South Africa has the squad depth and skill set to overcome the challenge

“2015, If I remember right, it got rain affected and then sort of pushed South Africa slightly behind the total and what a cracker of a game, last ball six and won the game. So, I’m sure it will be a close game because of the surface. Surface is really good. Equally balanced. Both teams are good, balanced teams. I think South Africa in my view, have a slight edge over New Zealand. Although New Zealand have played a lot more in Pakistan of late, even prior to the Champions Trophy. But I think, I’d back South Africa,” said Kumble in a video shared by ESPNcricinfo.
