With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 fast approaching, teams are in full preparation mode for the high-stakes tournament. However, former Indian batter Aakash Chopra has raised concerns about potential weaknesses in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad, which he be꧋lieves could make them vulnerable during the season.
Aakash Chopra hints at vulnerabilities in SRH squad
Discussing SRH’s squad on his YouTube channel, Chopra pointed out that the franchise’s lower-middle order appears relatively inexperienced, particularly in high-pressure situations. He emphasized that SRH’♎s No. 6 and No. 7 batting slots lack the experience required to thrive in the intense matchups of the IPL, potentially leaving the team exposed in crunch situations. With IPL 2025 set to be a fiercely competitive season, Chopra’s observations highlight a key area that SRH might need to address if they aim for a deep run in the tournament.
“If you get past the top five, somehow you dismiss the top five below 125 to 150 runs or so, then they can find themselves in a spot of bother. I am saying that because either Abhinav Manohar will play at No.6 or you have the options of Aniket Verma and Sachin Baby,” Chopra said.
Chopra pointed out that while Pat Cummins can slot in at No. 7, SRH still appears to be one batter short heading into the new season. He emphasized that their lower-middle order lacks proven experience, which could leave them vulnerable in pressure situations. Chopra suggested that Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis could 🔥be an option at No. 6, but this would require SRH to use one of their overseas slots to strengthen the lower-middle order. Finding the right balance between batting depth and maintaining a strong bowling unit will be crucial for SRH’s success in IPL 2025.
“Although Pat Cummins can come to bat, but even if Pat Cummins bats at No. 7, it’s one number higher than where he should be. So they need two batters at Nos. 6 and 7, and both will be Indians. They are difficult spots to bat. If you keep your most inexperienced players there, it could be a slight problem. This is a potential weakness,” the former cricketer added.
