Mohammed Shami’s road to recovery
Shami has not donned the Indian jersey since the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, where India faced heartbreak. Shortly after✤, the Bengal pacer underwent ankle surgery, followed by a rehabilit🐓ation stint at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Post-recovery, Shami marked his return to competitive cricket in November 2024, participating in domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 and Vijay Hazare Trophy. His impressive performances across formats underscored his readiness for international cricket.
Despite his strong domestic outings, Shami was not included in the India squad for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). The BCCI clarified that while Shami had recovered from his injury, he was deemed unfit to endure the rigours of a five-day Test match. However, the pacer’s recent training sessions and his optimistic post suggest he is gearing up for a return to white-ball cricket.

India’s upcoming assignments
If selected, Shami is expected to feature in India’s three-match ODI series against England, which begins later this month. The ODIs will follow a five-match T20I series, marking England’s tour of India. The bilateral series will serve as crucial preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, s❀cheduled to be held in Dubai. With India eyeing 🎃redemption on the global stage, having a seasoned campaigner like Shami in their ranks could be a game-changer.
