The fifth day of the Gabba Test match started with Australians taking the last Indian wicket within the first 24 balls of the day. What followed after the end of first innings for India was nothing short of extraordinary. A combined bowling effort led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj forced the Aussies to declare their second innings for just 89 runs, setting a target of 275 runs for India to win the third match of the series. The match ultimately ended in a draw with rain gods proving detrimental to the India൩n hopes of winning the Test match.

Rishabh Pant takes a sharp catch to get rid of Steve Smith

One of the key moments of the second Australian innings was the dismissal of veteran batter, Steve Smith. It started out with Smith hitting an emphatic boundary as he follows Siraj’s delivery down the track to hit the ball for four runs. However, on the very next delivery the 35-year-old tried to drive the ball towards fine leg. The ball took a slight edge of Smith’s bat instead and was caught by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. Smith could only play 5 balls in his short-lived innings and scored just 4 runs. The former Australian captain continues to struggle with his form as he got out cheaply once again. 2024 has been a year to forget for Smith as he could only manage to score 337 runs this year with an average of 28. His only century this year was a 101-run knock in the first i🌊nnings of the ong💞oing Gabba test.

Australian batting fell like a pack of cards

It was a disappointing display from Australian batters in their second innings as Siraj and Bumrah appeared in complete control taking 2 and 3 wickets respectively. Alex Carey, Travis Head and Pat Cummins were the only Australian batters who could reach a double-digit mark. The entire Australian batting line-up looked fragile in front of a solid bowling display fro💦m Indian pacers. Earlier, Aussies appeared to be in control of the test match that has been shrouded by rain so far. However, that changed quickly for the home side as their second innings crashed quickly after they put together a total of 445 runs in their first innings and bowled out India for 260 runs, barely avoiding the follow-on.
