David Warner, former Australian cricketer, has been entrusted with the captaincy of Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season. The BBL|14 is scheduled to take place from December 1, 2024 to January 27, 2025.Warner steps into this leadership role after Cricket Australia (CA) lifted his longstanding captaincy ban, imposed due to his involvement in the 2018 ball-tampering incident in South Africa. Having been a foundational figure for the Thunder in the BBL, Warner’s appointment as captain holds substantial meaning for 🅷both him and the franchise. Warner expressed excitement about captaining the Thunder again, saying it means a lot to him, especially as he was part of the team from the beginning.
“Captaining the Thunder again this season means a lot to me. I was part of the team from the start, and now to be back with that ‘C’ next to my name feels fantastic,” Warner was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

Warner emphasizes the importance of off-field leadership and creating a positive team environment. His vision includes fostering c🤪amaraderie and encouraging players to bond beyond the game. Warner acknowledged the efforts of former captains Chris Green and Jason Sangha, who led Thunder during his absence. Praising Green’s leadership and Sangha’s resilience, Warner mentioned how he values their insights, stating, “I want to compliment the way Greeny led from the front. He’s an exceptional talent with fantastic leadership qualities. Jason Sangha, too, before his injury. I gained great insight from both, and I know they’re guys I can lean on this season.”
