In the high-stakes atmosphere of the Perth Test between Australia and India, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made headlines not just for his batting but for his audacious verbal exchange with Australian pacer Mitchell Starc.

On Day 2 of the first Test, Jaiswal’s confident retort to Starc showcased his fearless attitude and determination to establish himself in international cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s verbal hit towards Mitchell Starc

During the 19th over of India’s second innings, Jaiswal found himself facing Starc, who  dismissed him for a duck in the first innings. After narrowly avoiding an outside edge on a full-length delivery, Starc shot a mocking glance at the young batter. However, Jaiswal was unfazed; he responded with a lofted shot that raced to the boundary. In a moment that encapsulated his bravado, Jaiswal quipped, “You are coming too slow at me,” directly challenging the pace spearhead of the Australian attack. This exchange not only highlighted Jaiswal’s growing confidence but also added an entertaining layer to the match, after Starc’s banter to Harshit Rana during Australia’s innings about bowling faster than the꧟ young ꦆdebutant pacer.

A redemption from Jaiswal in India’s second innings

Jaiswal’s performance in India’s second innings was a stark contrast to his earlier outing where he fell for an 8-ball duck. In his second essay, he scored a composed 90 not out off 193 balls, demonstrating resilience and skill under pressure. His ability to bounce back from disappointment is indicative of his potential as a future star in cricket. With this innings, he also broke a long-standing record previously held by Gautam Gambhir for the most runs by𒉰 an Indian left-handed batter in Tests within a cal𓄧endar year.

India’s position in the match was significantly bolstered by Jaiswal’s efforts alongside KL Rahul‘s 62* (153), as they built a substantial lead over Australia. At the end of Day 2, India have taken a lead of 218 runs with all ten wickets intact, setting the stage for a strong push towards victory.
