Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has shared his insights on the potential retent♊ion str𝕴ategy for Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Tom Moody predicts Punjab Kings’ retention strategy for IPL 2025
With the deadline for finalizing retention lists approaching on October 31, franchises are busy strategizing their squad selections. Moody believes that the Preity Zinta-owned franchise should prioritize retaining key players like Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada and Jitesh Sharma through 🔯the Right to Match (RTM) option.
“For Punjab Kings, I don’t think I would retain any players, certainly not capped players, but I’d be looking to use the Right To Match option for players like Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran and Rabada. Jitesh Sharma is another one I’d consider using the Right To Match for in the auction,” Moody was quoted as saying to Star Sports.

In addition to these key players, Moody suggested retaining uncapped players like Shashank Singh and Harpreet Brar. Shashank impressed with his powerful batting in the IPL 2024 season, while Brar’s left-arm spin proved to be a valuable asset for the team.
“When it comes to uncapped players, there are a couple of good players I’d like to secure before the auction: Shashank Singh, who is a solid middle-order power-hitter and had a great season last year, and Harpreet Brar, the left-arm spinner,” Moddy added.
Punjab Kings’ struggle in IPL 2024
Punjab Kings will be aiming for a strong performance in IPL 2025 after a disappointing 2024 season. The team has yet to secure an IPL title and struggled last season, failing to quality for the playoffs. In IPL 2024, they played 14 matches, winning only five and losing nine, which left them with just 10 points and a ninth spot in the standings. With th𒆙e mega auction around the corner, PBKS will be looking to bring in top players to build a competitive squad for the 2025 season.
