In a wave of speculation ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fielding coach Jonty Rhodes has hinted at the possibility of Indian captain Rohit Sharma joining the franchise. With the mega auction approaching, discussions around Rohit’s future have intensified, particularly following his tumultuous season with the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Jonty Rhodes’ comments
During a recent interview with ANI, Rhodes expressed admiration for Rohit, stating, “I mean, for a long time at Mumbai Indians, I felt I had the best job in the world. I got to watch Rohit Shama practice and play cricket. He is so elegant.”
Despite his enthusiasm, Rhodes emphasized that LSG’s success does not hinge solely on acquiring Rohit. “I mean, there’s the balance of teams, who’s in the side. I love watching Rohit Sharma bat, but I’m not saying he must come in and replace [KL Rahul], and then suddenly we change our setup. So whatever, as I said, whatever happens, who is ever there? I’ll be doing my best to support,” the former South African cricketer added.

Speculation surrounding Rohit’s future in the IPL
Rohit’s future with the Mumbai Indians has been under scrutiny following a disappointing IPL 2024 season, where he was replaced as captain by Hardik Pandya. This has l🥀ed to ram♐pant speculation about his potential move to LSG, with reports suggesting that the franchise is willing to allocate a significant budget for his signing.
Team owner Sanjiv Goenka recently addressed rumours that LSG are saving ₹50 crores to secure Rohit, dismissing the claim as “baseless.” He stated, “Does anybody know if Rohit Sharma is available at the auction? The entire rumour is baseless. We have to see if MI releases Rohit Sharma.”
As the IPL 2025 mega auction approaches, the cricketing world will be watching closely to see if Rohit makes a move to LSG and how this developments will impact the franchise’s strategy moving forward. The excitement surrounding potential player movements continues to build as teams prepare for the upcoming season.
