The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a grand victory parade on Wednesday (July 4), in honor of Team India‘s historic T20 World Cup 2024 win against South Africa in Barbados. The parade is set t🌺o be a significant celebration, marking a memorable triumph for Indian cricket.

Arrival in New Delhi and reception

The Men in Blue, along with the support staff, their families, and media, were stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, a category four hurricane that shut down Grantley Adams International Airport for three days. Finally, the team departed for Delhi aboard a charter flight, Air India Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC), which took off around 4:50 AM local time and landed in New Delhi at approximately 7:00 AM IST on Wedne𝐆sday. They were greeted by hundreds of enthusiastic fans at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, who held placards, waved the national flag, and braved a drizzle to welcome their ꦛheroes.

Breakfast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Following their arrival, the team waved to their supporters from inside the team bus en route to ITC Maurya Hotel. Later, they will attend a breakfast hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 11:00 AM. PM Modi had previously spoken to key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli a🦩fter the final, and now he will meet ☂them in person to congratulate them for their historic and memorable victory.

Victory parade in Mumbai and celebration details

After the breakfast, Team India will head to Mumbai for a grand victory parade. The parade, reminiscent of MS Dhoni‘s 2007 ICC World T20-winning team’s celebration, will begin at 5:00 PM. The route will cover approximately 2 kilometers, starting at NCPA, Nariman Point, Marine Drive and ending at Wankhede Stadium. The open-top bus parade will allow fans to celebrate along the way.

Skipper Rohit and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the parade on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Rohit invited fans to join the celebration, stating, “We want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. So let’s celebrate this win with a victory parade at Marine Drive and Wankhede on July 4 from 5 PM onwards. It’s coming home,”

BCCI Secretary Shah wrote, “Join us for the Victory Parade honouring Team India’s World Cup win! Head to Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium on July 4th from 5:00 PM onwards to celebrate with us! Save the date! #TeamIndia #Champions @BCCI @IPL,”

Felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium

The celebration will culminate at Wankhede Stadium with a felicitation ceremony starting at 7:30 PM. BCCI officials will present the Indian team with a reward of ₹125 crore INR, dividing between the players, support staff, and national selectors. This grand ceremony will honored the team for ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought. The victory parade and celebrations will be a fitting tribute to Team India’s remarkable achievement, allowing fans and players alike to revel in the joy of their historic win.
