Yuzvendra Chahal cemented his legacy in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by becoming the first bowler to achieve the milestone of 200 wickets. This remarkable feat unfolded during the clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), captained by Hardik Pandya, on Monday (April 22), at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Chahal’s journey to this landmark peaked when he dismissed Mohammad Nabi.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s landmark achievement: 200 wickets in the IPL
Introduced into the attack in the eighth over after Mumbai opted to bat, Chahal deceived Nabi with a delicately floated leg-break, inducing a leading edge that resulted in a straightforward return catch for the bowler. It was a poetic twist of fate for Chahal, who had made his IPL debut with Mumbai back in 2013, to achieve this monumental feat against the same side. This milestone marked a historic moment in Chahal’s IPL career, spanning 153 matches.
From Mumbai to Bengaluru: Chahal’s IPL journey
Chahal’s IPL journey commenced in 2011 when he was signed by Mumbai, though he only debuted in the tournament in 2013. Despite making a solitary appearance for Mumbai, where he remained wicketless across four overs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Chahal’s career truly flourished after he joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2014. During his stint with RCB from 2014 to 2021, spanning 113 matches, Chahal scalped 139 wickets at an impressive average of 22.03 and an economy rate of 7.58, establishing himself as RCB’s highest wicket-taker in the IPL.

Transition to Rajasthan: Chahal’s impact with the Royals
However, ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, RCB opted not to retain Chahal, leading to his acquisition by the Rajasthan for INR 6.5 crore. Since joining the Royals in 2022, Chahal has continued to leave an indelible mark. In the IPL 2022 season, he played a pivotal role in the Royals’ journey to the final, claiming 27 wickets at an economy rate of 7.75. Notably, his standout performance in that season included a memorable five-wicket haul, where he dismantled KKR with figures of 5/ 40, including a hat-trick that saw the dismissals of Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins.
In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, Chahal has once again demonstrated his prowess, claiming 13 wickets and currently shares the top spot on the wicket-takers’ list with Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel

Yuzvendra Cha𒁏hal is such a classic IPL story. Has been favoured by franchises, has lost favour with franchises &a🥂mp; has through it all been the talisman for whichever jersey he’s donned while continuing to take wickets with regular frequency. Champion bowler

He’s an entertainer, he’s everyone’s favourite. He’ll make you smile in♑ one second and pick your wicket the next. He’s a fighter, he doesn’t back down. He’s the first bowler in IPL history to pick 200 wickets but you know what’♏s the best part?
This IPL legend wears Pink. 💗
