Former England cricket team captain Alastair Cook, renowned for being his country’s highest run-scorer in Tests, announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket on Friday, October 13.

The 38-year-old left-handed batter, who bid adieu to international cricket back in 2018, captained England Test team in 59 matches from 2012♉ to 2017 and also led his side in 69 One-day Internationals (ODIs) from 2010 to 2014. He even played four T20Is for his national team.

On domestic from fron🌺t, he dedicated his entire counꦜty career to Essex.

Expressing his sentiments, Cook told Essex: “It is not easy to say goodbye. For more than two decades, cricket has been so much more than my job. It has allowed me to experience places I never dreamed I would go, be part of teams that have achieved things I would never have thought possible and, most importantly, created deep friendships that will last a lifetime.”

Known for his remarkable 12,472 Test runs across 161 matches, Cook also has 33 Test centuries to his name – the most by an English player.

Biding farewell to professional cricket, the southpaw emphasized that it’s the appropriate time to step aside and make way for the new generation of players.
