The cricketing world once again witnessed the frustration of fans as rain interrupted the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023. This downpour brought a sense of déjà vu, as the group stage encounter between the two arch-rivals had also suffered the same fate. However, there’s a glimmer of hope, as this match has a reserve day allotted in case play can’t be completed today, ensuring that the excitement will continue.

India’s dominance

Asked to bat first, India made a strong start with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill setting the stage on fire with their brilliant partnership. Rohit scored a solid 56 runs from 49 balls, while Gill played a stellar knock of 58 runs off 52 deliveries. The duo’s partnership was a treat for cricket enthusiasts as they displayed impeccable timing and elegant stroke-play.

Rain breaks the momentum

Although just when it seemed like India was poised for a big total, rain clouds loomed over the R. Premadasa Stadium, causing play to be halted after 24.1 overs. At the time of interruption, India had reached a score of 147/2 with Virat Kohli (8*) and KL Rahul (17*) steady at the crease for the Men in Blue.

Pakistan’s DLS revised target if India doesn’t bat again

As the rain disrupted play, the focus of fans now turns to what the revised target for Pakistan would be. On that note, let’s delve into the possible target for Pakistan from here if India doesn’t get a chance to bat again.

Assuming India doesn’t get a chance to bat again, and if play is still possible for Pakistan with DLS revised target in reduced overs tonight, then the Green Team would require 206 runs in 24 overs. However, if rain doesn’t spare time for 24 overs to be bowled, then the targets and over counts will change accordingly.

DLS revised targets for Pakistan and reduced overs:

  • Pakistan’s revised target in 24 overs would be 206 runs.
  • Pakistan’s revised target in 23 overs would be 200 runs.
  • Pakistan’s revised target in 22 overs would be 194 runs.
  • Pakistan’s revised target in 21 overs would be 187 runs.
  • Pakistan’s revised target in 20 overs would be 181 runs.

Reserve Day: A glimmer of hope

It is also important to note that if today’s day is washed out, then the game will resume from the same point on the reserve day, i.e. tomorrow (September 11).
