Warwickshire locked horns with Derbyshire in the 57th match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham on Wednesday (June 7). While batting first, Warwickshire reached 203/7 after Sam Hain’s played a blistering knock of 79 in just 36 balls. In reply, Derbyshire won the match comprehensively by six wickets with three balls to spare. Leus du Plooy (66) remained the top scorer for the side. At the same time, Luis Reece (57) and Haider Ali (48) made valuable contributio🔯ns with their bats.
However, Pakistan’s Haider grabbed the eyeballs of the fans more for his bizarre way of getting out than his batting.
The Derbyshire opening pair of Reece and Haider got them off to a flying start while chasing a mammoth target of 204 against Warwickshire. Ali raced to 48, taking his team’s total to 95-0 by the end of the 10th over.
In the 11th over, Danny Briggs bowled a full length delivery outside off-stump to Haider, who missed to connect while trying to convert it into a full toss. In the process, he came out of his crease, but the opponent wicketkeeper Alex Davies initially missed the chance to stump Haider.
Seeing the Warwickshire’s keeper failed attempt to collect the ball cleanly, Haider casually left his crease. But this time, Davies dislodged the bails, leaving the batter in shock. The square-leg umpire eventually confirmed Haider’s dismissal.
