Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry narrowly missed out on a well-deserved century on the opening day of the one-off against England at Trent Bridge. Perry, who was looking solid in her innings, fell agonizingly short by just one run when she was dismissed by England debutant Lauren Filer.

Batting at number three, Perry played a crucial role in stabilizing Australia’s innings after the early loss of Phoebe Litchfield. She formed a vital 119-run partnership for the third wicket with Beth Mooney, steadying the Australian side.

After Mooney’s departure, Perry found a reliable partner in Tahlia McGrath, and the duo dominated the afternoon session, consistently finding boundaries when needed. The pair added an impressive 119 runs together before Sophie Ecclestone eventually dismissed McGrath.

Unfortunately for Australia, rain interrupted play soon after McGrath’s dismissal. When the game resumed, the Australian team lost two quick wickets before Perry was also sent back to the pavilion.

Perry got out on 99

Perry reached the score of 99 with a boundary but couldn’t complete her century. In an attempt to steer the ball down the gully region, she inadvertently hit it over the head of Natalie Sciver-Brunt, who took a fantastic catch to remove Perry.

Here’s the video:

Despite falling short of a century, Perry achieved a significant milestone in Test cricket. She became the first player to feature in 10 Women’s Ashes matches. Perry surpassed the previous record held by  Charlotte Edwards (England), Alex Blackwell (Australia) and Katherine Brunt (England) – each featured in nine Ashes Tests.

The ongoing Test match marks the beginning of the multi-format series, which will be followed by three T20Is and three one-day internationals. Hosts England aims to reclaim the Ashes ❀from Australia after a winless campaign in 2021-22.
