The highly anticipated player draft for the Global T20 Canada 2023 took place on Tuesday night, June 14,𝓰 in a hybrid format in Mumbai. Representatives from each franchise joined the event from various locations around the world, making it a truly global affair. The third edition of the GT20 league is set to kick off on July 20 in Brampton, Canada, with an enthralling league stage comprisi💟ng 25 matches spread over 18 days.
The tournament features six franchises, each consisting of 16 players selected from Full and ICC Associate Member Nations. The squads are composed of six international players, including two marquee stars, four players from Associate Nations, and six Canadians. The player draft, conducted under a franchise salary cap of $579,500, unveiled a star-studded line-up of marquee players who are set ꦍto light up the tournament.
Headlining for the Brampton Wolves this season is former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, bringing his vast experience and skill to the team. Joining him is New Zealand’s dynamic all-rounder, Colin de Grandhomme. The Montreal Tigers will boast the presence of Bangladesh’s cricket sensation Shakib Al Hasan, along with West Indies’ explosive all-rounder Andre Russell and Australian power-hitter Chris Lynn.
The Toronto Nationals will feature the legendary Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi, known for his exceptional skills, alongside New Zealand’s hard-hitting batsman Colin Munro. The Mississauga Panthers will have veteran Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and the indomitable ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle in their ranks, promising an onslaught of runs. The Surrey Jaguars have secured the services of England’s aggressive opener Alex Hales and Pakistan’s formidable top-order batsman Iftikhar Ahmed. Similarly, the Vancouver Knights have made Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batter Mohammed Rizwan and South African all-rounder Rassie van der Dussen their marquee picks, add🦩ing depth and versatility to their squad.
