Australia’s opening batter, Usman Khawaja, grabbed the spotlight on Day 2 of the first Ashes Test against England with a scintillating century at Edgbaston. It was a remarkable innings as it marked Khawaja’s first Test hundred on English soil.
Khawaja’s century played a pivotal role in Australia’s fightback after the tourists found themselves struggling at 67/3 in response to England’s first-innings total of 393/8. The left-handed batter formed crucial partnerships with Travis Head, Cameron Green and Alex Carey to guide Australia to a strong position, finishing Day 2 at 311/5ꦓ.
Displaying his class and composure, Khawaja celebrated his milestone with flair and remained unbeaten on 126 at stumps on Day 2, ensuring Australia’s solid position in the match. Following the day’s play, Khawaja attended the press conference, accompanied by his adorable three-year-old daughter, Aisha, who unintentionally stole the spotlight with her cuteness and innocence. He shared that his daughter refused to🍸 be separated from him, leadinꦗg to her presence during the press conference.
During the conference, Aisha’s curiosity shone through when she asked about her younger sister, Ayla. Khawaja kindly responded, assuring her that Ayla was not present but with their mother. He playfully promised her that they would go back to their family soon and requested her cooperation so that he could address the press. The endearing interaction between father and daughter brought smiles to everyone present.
“Yeah, she is not here, baby Ayla’s not here. She is with Mama. We will go back soon though, okay? 2 minutes. Let me talk. Okay? I don’t know how long I have here. So, let’s do this,” said Khawaja.
However, a hilarious moment occurred when Khawaja noticed Aisha scrolling through a journalist’s camera roll on a nearby device. In a lighthearted manner, Khawaja couldn’t help but laugh, requesting Aisha to stop swiping through the pictures, which resulted in raucous laughter from the press gallery. With a gentle reassurance, he informed her that she could explore the phone later and encouraged her to play with his own device.
“Stop swiping through the camera! It’s okay, you can do it later. You can play with Dad’s phone,” added Khawaja.
