Meanwhile, speaking of the match, MI delivered a resounding performance to defeat LSG by 81 runs. The star of the match was young pacer Akash Madhwal, who claimed a sensational𓄧 fiv🔯e-wicket haul, finishing with remarkable figures of 5/5 in 3.3 overs.
Lucknow seemed well placed in their chase of 183, reaching 68/2 in eight overs. However, their innings took a drastic turn as they lost wickets in quick succession, ultimately being bowled out for 101 in 16.3 overs. Madhwal’s exceptional bowling was instrumental in dismantling Lucknow’s batting lineup. Mumbai also benefitted from three run-outs caused by Lucknow’s own errors, securing their place in Qualifier 2.
In Qualifier 2, MI will face the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday (May 26). Mumbai’s victory was built on a solid foundation, with early breakthroughs from Madhwal, including the dismissal of Prerak Mankad and Kyle Mayers. Despite a brief partnership between Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green, Lucknow struggled to maintain momentum. Madhwal’s devastating return in the tenth over triggered a collapse, dismissing Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran in quick succession.
The game swung firmly in Mumbai’s favour as further run-outs resulted in the dismissals of Stoinis and Krishnappa Gowtham. Madhwal continued his onslaught, taking the crucial wickets of Ravi Bishnoi and sealing his five-wicket haul by clean bowling Mohsin Khan. His exceptional spell of bowling paved the way for MI’s dominant and emphatic victory.
