Following the Test series loss against England at home, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has been sacked as chairman. Raja has been removed from his post, and veteran administrator Najam Sethi has been appointed as the new PCB chief.

The move from the PCB came just a day after Pakistan suffered an embarrassing 3-0 loss in a Test series against the Ben Stokes-led side. Under Raja, who took over the role in September 2021, Pakistan played 2 T20 World Cups and a 50-over Women’s World Cup.

According to local reports, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sherif, also the board’s patron, appointed Sethi as the new chairman of the PCB. For the unversed, the board constitution permits the Prime Minister to nominate candidates for the post of chairman.

Notably, Sethi is an experienced campaigner regarding the administration of PCB. He had resigned as PCB chairman when former cricketer Imran Khan was elected as theꦛ Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018.

Sethi shared the developments through his official Twitter handle, in which he claimed that Raja is no longer the PCB chief and that the 2014 constitution of the nation’s board has been restored as well.

“The cricket regime headed by Ramiz Raja @iramizraja is no more. The 2014 PCB constitution stands restored. The Management Committee will work tirelessly to revive first class cricket. Thousands of cricketers will be employed again. The famine in cricket will come to an end,” tweeted Sethi.

Historically in Pakistan cricket, a change in PCB administration often follows the modification in the team’s leadership, but Babar Azam’s position as captain of the senior men’s side is unlikely to be affected. The Lahore-born cricketer has been named to lead the squad for the upcoming New Zealand series.
