Team India’s batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav once again displayed his charisma as he smashed a brilliant century in the second T20I against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Surya lit up the Bay Oval stadium with his extraordinary batting display. The Pune-born cricketer took Black Caps bowlers to the cleaners, reaching the triple-figure score with consecutive fours off Lockie Ferguson in the penultimate over. This was Suryakumar’s second century in the shortest format. His maiden T20I ton came against England in Nottingham earlier this year.

Suryakumar remained unbeaten on 111 off 51 deliveries and with the help of his incre♚dible knock, the Men in Blue posted 19𓃲1/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Highest individual T20I scores for India:

  • 122*(61) – Virat Kohli vs Afg, Dubai 2022
  • 118 (43) – Rohit Sharma vs SL, Indore 2017
  • 117 (55) – Suryakumar Yadav vs Eng, Nottingham 2022
  • 111*(51) – Suryakumar Yadav vs NZ, Mt Maunganui 2022
  • 111*(61) – Rohit Sharma vs WI, Lucknow 2018

“In T20, a hundred is always special, but at the same time, it was really important for me to bat till the very end. Hardik was telling me to bat till the 18th or 19th over and get to a score of 185 or so. After the end of the 16th over, we had a chat about taking it deep,” Suryakumar said in the mid-innings break.
