In a thrilling contest, Team India defeated England by 4 runs to book a place in the final of the ongoing Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket Competition 2022. With that India are now assured of a medal in cricket. They will definitely go for gold but even if the Women in Blue face a loss, they will return with silver.
After opting to bat first, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led India posted a competitive total of 164/5 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Smriti Mandhana was once again the star with the willow, smashin♊g a brilliant half-century to give India a flying start.
Mandhana scored 61 from just 32 deliveries with the help of eight fours and three sixes. Apart from the left-handed batter, India’s middle-order specialist Jemimah Rodrigues also chipped in with a valuable unbeaten knock of 44 off 31 balls to help India crossꦬ the 160-run mark.
In response, England lost their three wickets for 81 in nine overs and were looking under pressure in the chase. However, captain Natalie Sciver and wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones stepped up to bail out the English side.
The duo added 54 runs for the fourth wicket and it a𝔍ppeared they will easily take England home. However, a couple of run-outs in the latter stage sealed the deal for India as the Women in Blue booked a spot in the final of the competition.
