India have qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket Competition 2022 following a clinical victory over Barbados at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Wednesday. With the victory, India have join🌳ed Australia, England and New Zealand in the final four of the competition.
After being asked to bat first, the Women in Blue exhibited a brilliant batting display, courtesy of sensational knocks by Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma.
Rodrigues smashed an unbeaten 56 off 46 deliveries with the help of seven boundaries, including a six. Similarly, Shafali scored 43 off 26 balls, including eight boundaries. Apart from the duo, Deepti Sharma also m๊ade a handy contribution down the order with an unbeaten 34 off 28 deliveries to help India post 162/4 on the board in 20 ov𒊎ers.
In response, Barbados Women failed to get going at all and could only able to reach 62/8 in their assigned 20 overs, losing the contest by a massive margin of 100 runs. Renuka Singh was the ෴chief destroyer, taking a four-wicket haul while conceding only 10 runs in her quota of🧸 4 overs.
“Definitely, I’ve worked on my power game, but more than that, I’ve understood my game better. I’m not a power-hitter, I’m a placer. I can hit the singles and doubles well; I know how to manoeuvre the field. I think that is my strength. My game is not very flashy, but even without that, I end up with a good strike rate. That is what I realised I don’t have to be someone else; I have to be Jemimah Rodrigues to score. This is what has helped me,” said Rodrigues after the game.
