South Africa defeated India in the first One-Day International (ODI) of the ongoing three-🥀match series at Boland𝓡 Park in Paarl on Wednesday.
On a slow and extremely challenging track, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma and batter Rassie van der Dussen shined with the bat to help their side post 296/4 on the board in 50 overs. The hosts, however, started roughly after losing opener Janneman Malan in the fifth over. Soon, Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram were dismissed as the Proteas were reduced at 68/3 in 17.4 overs𒉰.
However, then Bavuma and van der Dussen took charge to take their side out of hot water. The duo didn’t give any chance to India to come back in the game and went on to form a dominating partnership.
Bavuma and van der Dussen formed a match-winning 204 runs stand for the fourth wicket as both the players smashed respective centuries. While the South Africa captain was removed fo💮r 110 off 143 deliveries, van der Dussen remained unbeaten at 129.
In reply, India could only manage to reach 265/8 in their allotted 50 overs, losing the contest by 31 runs. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan top-scored for his side with a brilliant 79 off 84 balls before Keshav Maharaj cleaned him up.
Former captain Virat Kohli also contributed well with 51 off 63 deliveries before the middle-order collapsed. All-rounder Shardul Thakur remained unbeaten on ♐50 as the visito🅠rs got bundled out for 265/8.

Hundreds for Van Der Dussen and Temba Bavuma, after losing early wickets both have played brilliantly so far. Dussen has been more aggressive and taken the game in ODIs to the different level in🃏 the l🌌ast few years.

The fact that Glenn Maxwell’s 41-ball century🎐 in Melbourne & Temba Bavuma’s 133-ball century in Paarl against the white ball, some two hours apart, are being celebrated with equal admiration makes cricket such a special but strange sport for those who don’t get it
