During one of the games in the Indian Premier League (IPL), a wired-up Manoj Tiwary transmitted Kevin Pietersen’s message from the commentary box to his Rising Pune Supergiant skipper MS Dhoni.

There, Pietersen boasted about him being a better golfer than MS. To which, Dhoni replied with his typical slap-stick response and said, “He (Pietersen) is still my first Test wicket.”

Now, a few years down the line, the English cricketer-turned-commentator has finally provided an appropriation for Dhoni’s claims, while paying tribute to the recently retired Indian cricketer.

“MS my great buddy what a career, what a stellar career, what an amazing career what a magical career. One career that you should be so so proud of. All of India all, all of the world is so blessed to have been able to witness one of the most magical careers,” Pietersen hailed Dhoni on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Connected’.

“I think but now at the end of your career, here is one thing, just that one thing, you never got me out. It was referred at Lord’s and I get a continue stick from you and your fans that I am your first Test wicket. You know and I know that it never happened, OK!! Now that you are done, let’s just clear the air, it never happened. Anyways, buddy what an awesome career, congrats and welcome to the club!!” he added.

The instance the two former RPS teammates talked about was during the 2011 Lord’s Test match, where Dhoni tried his arms at Pietersen. Subsequently, Dhoni raised an appeal for caught behind which went in favour of him.

However, Pietersen decided to review the decision made by the umpire. Later, the umpire’s decision was overturned as replays clearly showed that no part of the bat hit the ball on its way to the keeper down the leg side.
