Pakistan has defeated one-time champion West Indies to register their first win in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Canberra on Wednesday.

From Diana Baig to Javeria Khan, it was a✅ team effort that took Pakistan over th﷽e line in Canberra.

Chasing 124 wasn’t going to be difficult, but considering the Windies side, even 124 was challenging. However, the opening pair of Muneeba Ali and Javeria made it look very easy and added 58-runs for the first wicket, which somehow took the game away from Stafanie Taylor-led side.

Javeria did get oꦕut for 35, followed by her partner-in-crime Ali for 25, but the skipper Bismah Maroof and middle-order batter Nida Dar held their ends respectively and reached the target with ten balls to spare.

Earlier, West Indies started terribly and lost their first wicket on the very first ball of the match. Ever since that wicket, the Caribbeans never really got the momentum. Although Stafanie Taylor (43) and Shemaine Campbelle (43) had a decent partnership (63 runs) for the fourth wicket, but it wasn’t enough, and they could only post 124-7 in 20 overs.

For Pakistaꦐn, Baig claimed 🌄two wickets while Anam Amin bagged one. All-rounder Dar and pacer Aiman Anwer grabbed two wickets each.

Pakistan will now take on the challenge of South Africa on Sunday (Mar 01ܫ) at Sydney Showground Stadium, while West Indies will face England on the same day at that venue.
