Team India’s new No. 4 batsman Shreyas Iyer continues his dream run in limited-overs cricket as he slammed his maiden ODI century against New Zealand in the first game of the three-match series at Seddon Park on Wednesday.
Iyer, who started the New Zealand tour with an unbeaten 58 at Eden Park in the first T20I of the five-match series, scored his century in the 43rd over of the first inningsꦐ with a single off Mitchell Santner.
The 25-year-old came out to bat after the fall of debutant Mayank Agarwal’s wicket in the 9th over and went from strength to strength. Iyer took his time to settle in on a pitch tailor-made for batting and once he got his eyes in, he was in full flow.
The stylish Mumbaikar played a flawless inning for the most part barring once when he was dropped by Colin de Grandh🐬omme for 83. Iyer hit one strai🌄ght to long-on off Santner in the 41st over but de Grandhomme made a complete mess of it and dropped it in the end.
After scoring his maiden hundred, Iyer de🍨parted for a 107-ball 103. His mishit off Tim Southee went straight into the hands of Santner, who was swe💖eping the off-side fence.
