SA vs ENG: Jos Buttler fined for his repugnant language at Vernon Philander

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Thursday, announced that England’s wicket-keeper Jos Buttler had been fined 15% of his match fee.

Buttler also received one demerit point for his foul-mouthed behavior with South Africa’s Vernon Philander during the second Test at Newlands on Tuesday (Jan 07).

On the final day of the Cape Tไown Test between England and South Africa, Buttler was captured by the stump-mic using obscene language 🍌against Philander.

The incident took place when English skipper Joe Root threw the ball towards Buttler, but Philander remained unmoved and got in the wicketkeeper’s way. At this, Buttler got annoyed and called Phillander a f***ing k***head.

England’s wicket-keeper was found guilty of a breach of the ICC’s Code of Conduct for players, specifically the “use of an audible obscenity during an international cricket match.”

“Buttler admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing,” as per ICC’s media release.

England went on to win the game on the fifth day by a margin of 189-runs to level the four-match series 1-1. The next match will take place from January 16-20 at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth.
