Glenn Maxwell leaves Australia squad and takes indefinite break from cricket

Aussie star batsman Glenn Maxwell has dramatic﷽ally left the Australian squad to🐷 take an indefinite break from cricket.

Cricket Australia (CA), on Thursday, revealed that Maxwell has withdrawn from the squad for the ongoing T20 International series against Sri Lanka due to mental health issues.

Dr. Michael Lloyd, the Australian team Psychologist, released a short statement giving details on Maxwell’s difficulties.

“Glenn Maxwell has been experiencing some difficulties with regards to his mental health,” Lloyd said.

“As a result, he will spend a short time away from the game.

“Glenn was proactive in identifying these issues and engaging with support staff.”

Ben Oliver, the National Teams Executive General Manager, emphasized that the well-being of players is Cricket Australia’s primary focus.

“Glenn has our full support,” Oliver said.

“Cricket Australia will work collaboratively with Cricket Victoria’s support staff to ensure Glenn’s well-being and his reintegration into the game.

“We ask that everyone gives Glenn and his family and friends space; and respects their privacy at this time.

“He’s a special player and an important part of the Australian cricket family. We hope to see him back in the team during the summer.

“It’s important we look after Glenn and all our players.”

The 31-year-old Victoria🧔 cricketer ma🤡de his call after appearing for Australia in their second T20I against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

The Aussies won that match by nine wickets with Maxwell getting a chance to either bat or bowl in his side’s dominant performance.

Earlier in the first T20I, Maxwell was part of a brilliant run-out where he predicted ‘live’ his opposition’s dismissal.

Left-handed batsman D’Arcy Short will replace Maxwell in the Australian T20I squad that next faces Sri Lanka on Friday at the MCG.
