England fast bowler James Anderson is set to miss the second Ashes Test, beginning on August 14 at Lord’s.
Anderson, England’s leading Test wicket-taker was deemed fit for the Edgbaston Test, in spite of hurting the same calf while playing for Lancashire last month.
But the 37-year-old managed to bowl just four overs in the first Test. His right calf injury didn’t allow him to bowl again as Australia beat England by 251 runs.
According to a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Anderson was sent for an MRI scan after complaining of “tightness to his right calf.”
“As a result of the injury, he will commence a rehabilitation programme working with the England and Lancashire medical teams,” added the ECB.
Moreover, he will be “reassessed on an ongoing basis.”
According to reports, rapid paceman Jofra Archer could replace Anderson in the second game. A🔜rcher too was missing from the playing XI in the first Test at Birmingham as he was given more time to regain his fitness.
He is currently playing ꦓa red-ball match for Sussex 2nd XI against Warwickshire.
Olly Stone, who made his Test debut against Ireland, rattling three wickets for 29 runs in 𒈔the first i♒nnings, is also being considered as a replacement.
On the other hand, Surrey’s left-arm all-rounder, Sam Curran might replace Joe Denly. England surely needs more bowling options to challenge the Australian batsmen, especially the in-form Steve Smith.
