With the technology available for every minutest detail of the game, a truly classic encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) ended on a sour note with the on-field umpire failing to call a no-ball off Lasith Malinga in the last ball of the match.
RCB needed seven runs to win off the final delivery but failed to do so. A fuming Virat Kohli called the incident ridiculous. The match was played at RCB’s home – M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.
However, outside of the controversial end of the game, if there was even a sliver of doubt whether Jasprit Bumrah is the world’s No. 1 bowler, he dispelled any such thoughts with an exceptional bowling performance in the death overs to steal a win for Mumbai Indians.
Here’s how the cricketing world reacted to the match:
Oh that no ball…
— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan)
In an era of so much technology and with so much at stake NO BALLS should never ever be missed ….
— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan)
Technology should be used much more often in cricket … so many front foot no-balls missed all the time in all formats and only checked on dismissal. Should be as simple as 3rd umpire telling the umpire through ear piece that a no ball has been bowled.

It would have been better if Shivam Dube was out on the last ball, seems like that is the only way umpires would have checked the

Malinga’s last ball was a no-ball….BIG one. Umpire missed it. Colossal error. Unbelievable.
— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash)
Kohli was livid over the no-ball that wasn’t called off the last delivery. But as Rohit pointed out, also suffered when a Bumrah delivery was declared a wide when it wasn’t. Shoddy umpiring overall.
