Time seems to be running well for 19-year-old Shubman Gill who received his maiden call-up for the Indian cricket team’s tour to New Zealand later this January. He along with all-rounder Vijay Shankar was added to the Indian squad, as replacements for KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya who have been sent back to India after their suspension by BCCI.
Shubman will return to New Zealand where he was named the player of the tournament during India’s successful U-19 World Cup campaign last year.
Post the tournament, he has had a rapid rise that saw him make runs for India ‘A’ and for Punjab in the domestic circuit. Shubman also managed to bag an IPL contract for the first time when he was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders and the fruitful 12-month period has culminated in a maiden call-up to the senior side.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:

If the news that Shubman Gill is selected for India is true; it’s an excellent move. He is a special talent and it is prudent that he jumps the long queue of excellent✨ young batsmen while he is🍎 in good form.

So excited for . Have always said that he's much more impressive than Prithvi Shaw. This may just end up as being a tour where he only ferries drinks, but it's a matter of time before he's making runs at the highest level.
