Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have sacked a major portion of their support staff, including head coach Daniel Vettori, bowling coach Andrew McDonald (former Australian Test cricketer), and batting and fielding coach, Australia’s Trent Woodhill, as per a report in Bangalore Mirror. This was an outcome of RCB’s poor performance in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ashish Nehra, who had joined the franchise last season as bowling mentor, has been retained, while Virat Kohli continues to remain ✃as the team skipper.
Vettori is likely to be replaceﷺd by Gary Kirsten, who was with RCB as batting consultant in IPL 2018. If the reports are to be believe𒐪d, Virat Kohli is expected to have his say in selecting the new support staff.
Vettori did not respond when asked about his sacking as the head coach while Kirsten wasn’t available for the comment as he was in forests of Zambia on a holiday.
On the other hand, Sanjeev Churiwala, CFO of Diageo India (which owns RCB) will replace Amrit Thomas 🍬as RCB chairman. Thomas will be moving to Europe to serve in a new role for Diageo.
