The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced former Indian skipper Anil Kumble as Team India’s new head coach. But BCCI president Anurag Thakur has revealed that Anil Kumble was not the board’s first choice as coach. He said that they had approached former Indian captain Rahul Dravid for this job.
In an interview to NDTV, Anurag Thakur revealed, “I requested Rahul Dravid to coach the Indian team. He didn’t say no, but said that he will work for the junior team.”
Thakur also praised Dravid’s intent to work at the grassroots and bring about a change from the ground-up. “That is the good thing about Dravid. He didn’t go for the senior team post, big money and all. He wanted to work for the junior cricketers and not the senior team,” he added.
Rahul Dravid has been an inspiration on the field and has done reasonably well with the young guns. He is currently the co🍸ach of the India A and U-19𒁃 team for the past one year and has preferred shorter assignments as he cannot stay away from home for a long time.
